Numerical Study of Mixing Process by Point Source Pollution with Different Release Positions in a Sinuous Open Channel

The process of pollutant mixing is significantly influenced by secondary flow and turbulence in meandering rivers. To investigate the influence different point source release positions on sinuous open channel flows, a 3D large-eddy simulation (LES) model based OpenFOAM was established to simulate passive scalar transport with rectangular cross-section. After verification flume experiment, two sets cases which sources were arranged at identical intervals spanwise streamwise directions configured evaluate efficiency. effect structure, motion, turbulent viscosity discussed. distribution as well flux analyzed detail, fluctuation characteristics also described. results demonstrate that due existence channel, transverse have significant efficiency spatial pollutant. placed near center cross-section or apex bend result higher Mixing calculated indices can be different, requires comprehensive assessment.
